Boliva has the largest indigenous population in Latin America with almost 62 percent of the population. The country also has a large youth population with approximately 57 percent of the population below 25 years of age. This is associated with increasing adolescent fertility rates, rising from 84 per 1,000 adolescents in 2003 to 88 per 1,000 adolescent in 2008. Similarly, the maternal mortality rate among adolescents 15-19 years increased from 23 per 100,000 births in 1998 to 25 in 2003.
